John Brautigam is a composer, lyricist, and musician based in New York. He is a graduate of BerkleeNYC, earning an MA in “Writing and Design for Musical Theater” as a proud member of their inaugural cohort. He currently serves as Composer-in-Residence at EastLine Theatre in Babylon, NY. John is also a recipient of the 2020 NYSCA LI Creative Individual Grant from the Huntington Arts Council.

His most recent piece is the thirteen minute musical, “The Story of the Bagel,” an absurdist musical comedy. You can stream the cast recording on Spotify here! Other recent works include underscore for Sam Shepard’s Buried Child, a summer touring production of The Merry Wives of Windsor, and music/lyrics for original theater projects: Diary of a Pirate, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, MIDAS, and Prospero (LIVE); a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Currently, John balances composing with private instruction and working as a Music Director for local theaters. Aside from his writing, John is a regular at local open mics and loves to draw and read— mostly history. He also enjoys acting onstage whenever he can find the time.
